Full-Featured Flight Status System Now Available For General Aviation, Air Taxis, Charters, and Small Airlines

Monday, May 21, 2007

NAPERVILLE, Illinois - For many years, the only type of available online flight status information regarded commercial airline flights, with large aircraft flying from large airports with published schedules. Few smaller aircraft could be tracked, and of those smaller general aviation flights that did have data online, nearly all were required to be under IFR flight plans or in constant contact with air traffic control. However, with today's launch of GAFlightStatus.com, individual pilots, air taxis, charter services, corporate flight departments, FBOs, and other entities worldwide now have a full-featured system to use for publishing live flight status, boarding, and arrival information quickly and easily. Even if a sightseeing or commuter flight never requires talking to air traffic control or flying under an IFR flight plan, full status information can be published from any computer or cell phone, lending a tremendous amount of professionalism to smaller operations.

For example, a charter or air taxi service may carry passengers, but does not have a dedicated dispatching staff. Flights can be scheduled into the GAFlightStatus.com system, which are then viewable by any customer. During the reservation process, companies can also queue customers to automatically receive text message or email updates as the flight statuses change, or as delays occur. Once the flight actually happens, as part of a checklist the charter or air taxi pilots can accurately post during the different phases of flight that they are on time, boarding, delayed, in flight, arrived, or even cancelled. This information is immediately updated and available for tracking online, or via any website through the use of web tickers and widgets.

Many different types of status board displays are also available, which allow smaller airports, FBOs, or facilities to recreate the status board displays of larger international hubs. A simple monitor and web browser on a desk can provide an at-a-glance picture of company operations, or the information can be broken down by departures, arrivals, aircraft, or status for a more comprehensive view on multiple screens.

An FBO, rental company, or a corporate flight department may want to know the status of all of its aircraft. The system displays departure times, arrival times, percentage of trip complete, location, schedule revisions, and cancellation reasons. It also automatically calculates performance statistics regarding delays and on-time percentage.

Even a private pilot with his/her own (or rented) aircraft can use the system. Pilots can have fun with the ability to create commercial-level status information, while at the same time providing an informative, easy-to-understand way of letting friends and family know where the they are and what they are doing.

As with any of the GAFlightStatus.com flight status tools, pilots can update flight status, with updates and additions, from any internet connected computer or directly from the field with a web-enabled cellular phone. Customers and passengers can also obtain data using a cellular phone. If using a mobile device, simply logon to: gaflightstatus.com/mobile
